What we collect
- Emails you send us: your name, email address and whatever you choose to include. We use this only to read and, where possible, respond to your message and to improve our guides.
- Message builder: the contact page tool runs entirely in your browser. Text you enter is not transmitted to us unless you send it yourself by email.
- Technical logs: our hosting provider may record standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and reliability, kept for a limited period.
Legal bases
We process email correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to readers, and server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. Where consent is required for optional storage on your device, we ask for it first.
Retention
Correspondence is kept for up to 24 months and then deleted, unless we need it longer to resolve a dispute. We do not sell or rent personal data and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, object to processing, or ask us to restrict it. Email us to exercise these rights. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
